A CHARITY fundraising event has raised thousands of pounds for needy services.
Saltburn Golf Club has held an annual golf competition in aid of charity for 18 years, bringing together top amateur players and keen club golfers. After this year's contest, £2,000 has been donated to The Children's Ward of the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, and £2,000 to the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
About 60 teams of four players take to the green in the event, which has a registration fee of £90. Hundreds of local charities have benefited from the money, raised through donations from businesses and club members and various events during the day, including raffles and tombola.
Mike Matha, Saltburn Golf Club secretary, said: "The club's sub-committee decide who to donate the money to out of hundreds of local charities - and after almost 20 years, there is still a lot of money to be raised."
