A NORTH-EAST council is to invest a further £110,000 in improving a travellers' caravan site.
Darlington Borough Council was awarded £312,000 by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister earlier this year for the building of 14 amenity blocks with kitchens, showers, toilets and storage space at the Honeypot Lane site. Electricity and water supplies are also being upgraded at the 45-pitch site.
However, a report to council cabinet members reveals that more funds are needed to complete the project.
Development director John Buxton said unforeseen circumstances, including increased excavation work, were to blame. Councillors will be asked to approve the release of an extra £110,000 to complete the scheme when they meet on Tuesday.
