A DRIVER who died after his car was involved in a collision with a lorry has been named.
Alistair Rodger Parkin, 63, of Victoria Terrace, Lanchester, was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra near Langley Park, when it was involved in an accident with a tanker that was heading towards Durham.
The car had travelled from Burnhope and had just turned on to the A691, at Kaysburn Road Ends crossroads, when the accident happened, at 3.08pm on Monday.
Mr Parking died at the scene and paramedics also treated a woman for shock.
The heavy goods vehicle driver, a 34-year-old man of Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, was uninjured.
The road, the main route from Lanchester to Durham, was closed for more than three hours.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
The incident took place half-a-mile from the scene of a fatal crash six days ago, when 17-year-old Peter Michael Connor, of Burnhope, died, after a car driven by his 16-year-old cousin left the road and hit a tree.
