NEWCASTLE'S FA Cup campaign will almost certainly start at Brentford's Griffin Park after non-leaguers Yeading ruled out entertaining the Magpies at their own ground.
Despite announcing that they were hoping to stage the third-round tie at The Warren, officials of the Ryman League club last night informed the Football Association that the game would have to be switched for "safety and security reasons".
The FA have accepted Yeading's position, but insisted that the game must take place at the "nearest suitable venue".
Both Brentford and QPR are based within 20 miles of Yeading but, with the latter already hosting an FA Cup game on January 8, so Griffin Park is the favourite.
The Magpies last visited Brentford in October 1992, when goals from David Kelly and Gavin Peacock earned a 2-1 win as they stormed to the First Division title.
The change of venue could affect the BBC's plans to televise the game as the corporation had been keen to see the match staged at Yeading's 3,500 capacity ground.
