RESIDENTS are trying to drum up support to help them to re-open a popular library caf.
Mike Findley, secretary of the Cleveland Pensioners' Forum, is calling for the Redcar Library Caf to be reopened in the New Year.
After contacting Redcar and Cleveland councillor Steve Kay to ask for support, Mr Findley is preparing a proposal to put to the council's education department.
He said: "Having been contacted by many pensioners regarding this closure, I asked Coun Kay about help available from the council for individuals willing to run the caf. He asked me to put any proposals in writing.
"Fellow members of the Cleveland Pensioners' Forum Executive Committee would like to see the caf re-opened in the New Year.
"So if there are any organisations or individuals willing to give me their help and support, so that I can put a proposal forward please get in touch.
"There are a lot of people who believe the caf is important for older people, the disabled, and anybody using Redcar Library.
"It was convenient, with easy access for the elderly and parents with young children. It was non-smoking and user-friendly. It is a real shame to see it disappear."
Anyone who wishes to support Mr Findley can call him on 0795 0012803 or write to him at: c/o Shop Counter, Post Office, High Street, Marske.
