PRIMARY school children are celebrating after picking up £1,000 in the Carol for Darlington competition for the second year running, writes Anthony Bond.
Cockerton Primary pupils won the competition after composing their own carol called Everyone Celebrate.
The song was written by year six children and performed by 35 pupils, aged seven to 11, in the school choir.
The schools deputy head, Clair Carter, said: "The kids are over the moon. We are hoping to put the money towards a new sound system which will help us further our music performance."
The competition took place as part of the Festival of Angels which was organised by the town centre management to get shoppers into the Christmas spirit and was hosted by Alpha 103.2FM.
Seven other schools from the town took part with Reid Street Primary School and Haughton School runners-up and each receiving £250.
