THE deadline for bouncers to obtain a new Security Industry Authority licence has been extended to allow a backlog of applications to be processed.
Under the initial requirements of the scheme, all door staff were supposed to have the licence before Monday, and venues operating with unlicensed staff faced being closed down.
But because so many applications have not yet been processed, an agreement has been reached to extend the deadline to February 7.
The police will not prosecute anyone in North Yorkshire for working as a door supervisor while waiting for their licence application to be processed.
During the interim period, all door supervisors must be in possession of a current North Yorkshire door supervisor's badge valid up to or beyond Monday. They must have undertaken and passed the new qualification and they must have submitted an application for a licence.
Assistant Chief Constable David Collins said: "This is a sensible and practical measure to give all parties concerned the opportunity to fulfil their legal obligations."
