TEESDALE District Council has agreed to sell off some of its land to be used as a private garden.
The sale of the land adjoining 10 Bartlemere, Barnard Castle, is on condition it will be used as a garden and will not have any structures built on it.
The council consulted with residents of the surrounding housing estate and 96 per cent said they did not object to the sale.
As part of the conditions of the transfer, the applicants must pay the market value of the land and also the council's legal costs and any fence put round the land cannot be taller than one metre.
