GARDENERS have been warned to take extra care after four thefts from sheds within a few days.
A petrol-engined Mountfield lawn mower was stolen from a shed in Dawson Road, Barnard Castle, and a Flymo mower and strimmer were taken from nearby West View.
A lock was smashed on a shed in Cecil Road in the town, but the thieves found nothing inside. An attempt was made to raid another in Harmire Road but, despite damaging it, the culprits did not get inside.
Sergeant Mark Jagodzinski, of Barnard Castle Police, urged people to lock their sheds and take a note of serial numbers of mowers and other items. Anyone who sees anything suspicious or who is offered second-hand garden equipment should call police on (01833) 637328.
