DETECTIVES last night issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to a high street bank robbery that left a security guard needing hospital treatment.
Two men in ski masks and boilersuits attacked a pair of Securicor guards as they loaded the cashpoint at the Abbey National, in Gosforth, Newcastle.
They sprayed a noxious substance, thought to be ammonia, at the guards, before they made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The raid took place at about 9.30pm on Wednesday, November 10, but police are still looking for people who could help inquiries.
One of the guards, a 49-year-old, needed hospital treatment. The first robber was about 5ft 9in and stocky. The other was 5ft 11in.
Anyone with information is asked to call 0191-214 6555, ext 62947.
