A REGIMENTAL museum and art gallery is providing an extra Christmas present to visitors.
The Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery, Aykley Heads, in Durham City, is offering free admission for five days over Christmas and New Year.
Free admission is normally given on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, but it is being extended to Monday and Tuesday, December 27 and 28, and from Saturday to Monday, January 1 to 3 because of this year's longer holiday period.
"Hundreds of visitors in previous years have taken the opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy our exhibitions," said museum spokesman Dennis Hardingham.
"Last year, we had more than 500 visitors over the two days and by adding a further three free days we expect many more.
"We have two national touring exhibitions featuring the work of Eduardo Paolozzi, who played a major part in the development of pop art in Britain, and another highlighting award-winning work from the world of British illustrators.''
The museum will be open between 10am and 4pm but will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
