POLICE and council officers have renewed appeals for information after three 30ft maple trees were hacked down.
Two men were spotted sawing down the 35-year-old trees - a crime which is being classed as criminal damage - in Sparrow Hall Drive, Darlington, last Thursday between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, as reported in The Northern Echo yesterday.
They drove off in a yellow van, leaving the trees blocking a public footpath.
A Darlington Borough Council spokeswoman said yesterday that only one call had been received about the incident, despite an appeal for information.
She said it was still hoped that someone had seen the offenders' van.
Call police on 0845 6060365 or the council on (01325) 388777.
