RESULTS of a survey show backing for building a play area in a Teesdale village.
A special meeting of Cotherstone Parish Council heard that 193 completed questionnaires about the Play at Cotherstone scheme have been returned.
Most respondents backed the scheme, although 20 had negative responses.
Many of the worries came from older residents and the committee of the Play at Cotherstone group is to look into the concerns, particularly of those living near the site.
The committee is to assess what people in the village want and put different design schemes to the village.
Plans for the play area include a younger children's play area, a multi-sports all-weather pitch and a grass area for rounders or football.
Wildlife and tree planting areas have also been proposed.
One issue was that residents were concerned they may end up paying more council tax. It is intended the parish council would contribute to the upkeep of the play area and continue to pay for insurance and inspection fees.
However, as it is not yet known what equipment will be in the play area, there is no idea yet how much this is likely to cost.
A further update meeting is to be held in the spring.
