MORE than 1,000 parents, college staff, governors and students gathered in Middlesbrough Town Hall last night for a prizegiving ceremony.

The presentations for Middlesbrough's Macmillan College rewarded academic achievement and effort over the past year.

More than 200 students, past and present, were called to the platform to be handed their awards by the guest of honour, manager of the Middlesbrough Football Club Academy, David Parnaby.

During the evening, a presentation was made to Macmillan Nurses of a cheque for £1,000 raised by the college during the year.

College principal Ken Fraser reported another excellent year during which the results of external examinations were better than ever.

He applauded the commitment of all members of the college community to raising achievement in all areas of college life.
