The North-East has the highest unemployment rate in the UK after jobless figures showed another 6,000 people were out of work in the last quarter.
The region's jobless rate now stands at six per cent, while in other areas of the country it fell by up to 16,000.
About 70,000 people in the North-East are now out of work, data from the Office for National Statistics said.
