A TOWN band has been forced to pull out of an annual Christmas concert because of a shortage of personnel.
Spennymoor Town Band hoped to feature in a concert at Spennymoor Town Hall this weekend, but has had to withdraw.
Members made the decision after its musical director resigned and because it has lost several experienced members in recent months, some having left the area.
Band secretary Katherine Telfer said: "It was a difficult decision.
"We have played in the town hall's Christmas concert for a long time - about 25 years that I remember.
"We still hope to get the band back on track as soon as possible and are looking forward to a busy calendar of engagements in 2005.
"We are very grateful to supporters, helpers and borrowed players who have helped us out."
Cockerton Band and Spennymoor Youth Band will still appear at the concert on Saturday, starting at 7.30pm, for which about 30 tickets are still available, priced £3, from the town hall on (01388) 815276.
Spennymoor Town Band is appealing for a new musical director and musicians, especially euphonium, cornet, horn and bass players, to join the ranks.
