THE latest phase of a £60m development on the edge of Darlington was given the go-ahead yesterday - despite concerns from a number of councillors.
Developers Bussey and Armstrong gained approval from the borough council's planning committee for a community building on the West Park site, at Faverdale. The building, at the eastern end of the development, will include a supermarket on the ground floor, other commercial space and 36 flats. The firm also secured consent to provide 98 parking spaces and create a landscaped courtyard.
However, committee members were concerned that the commercial side was progressing quicker than facilities for residents.
Councillor Charles Johnson said: "When will we see the applications for a public house, aged persons' housing and a surgery?"
Planning officer Jeremy Smith said the scheme was at a very early stage and other applications would follow.
