A 31-year-old Merseyside man has been remanded in custody charged with a rape 15 years ago.
Andrew Russell, of Arley Close, Prenton, the Wirral, faced one charge of rape and another of serious sexual assault when he appeared before Teesside Magistrates Court yesterday.
The alleged attack took place on the stairwell of a multi-storey car park in Stockton town centre on December 18, 1989.
A former member of the Armed Forces, Russell was arrested at work on Merseyside on Wednesday before being brought to Stockton police station for questioning.
The jobbing builder, who has close connections with Stockton, will appear before Teesside Crown Court on Thursday December 23.
