CARLISLE. - Mrs ME Brown's Windyhill Limousins of Houserigg, Aspatria, Cumbria, took all seven leading prices at a sale of unhaltered females on Friday. 89 females (+14 on the year) sold to an average of £1185 (+£35 on the year). Topping the day's trade at 3,200gns were two lots from Mrs Brown. The Windyhill Rustic, a first calver by Windyhill Joss and out of Summerhill Eveninggold with heifer calf at foot, Windyhill Vine by Ardbrack Seekingthegold, sold PD'd in calf into Henry Ridley's commercial herd, Woodhall, Wigton. J Baird, Co Armagh, paid the same figure for Windyhill Sara with heifer calf Windyhill Vienna at foot and PD'd in calf to Brayton Tux. Sired by Redstone Lancia and out of Windyhill Nolara, she was another January 2001 born first calver and joins Mr Baird's Sylvandene pedigree herd.
A further 5 lots from Mrs ME Brown made up to 2,500gns. Windyhill Roux, born November 2000, with heifer calf Windyhill Vaux, by Windyhill Joss and out of Molyneux Elaine, she ran with Brayton Tux and was offered guaranteed in calf: 2,500gns to JJ & BA Smith, High Blantyre, Glasgow.
Redstone Lancia daughter Windyhill Ruth out of dam Windyhill Gina sold to an undisclosed buyer for 2,100gns. A July 2000 second calver, she was PD'd in calf to Brayton Tux and with her 6-m heifer calf, Windyhill Vizette.

Coningswick Gail, AId in September, is by the Belgian sire Van't Korenhof Calvados and out of Coningswick Ella, 1,300gns to Mrs J Cruickshank, Parton, Castle Douglas. At 1,200, a shearling gimmer from the Coningswick flock, Welsh Gem, a February 03 born daughter of Headlind Ee By Gum and out of Clary Duchess, AId to Pentland Hero, to Anglesey breeder C Parry. North Wales buyer D Jones paid 1,200gns for an imported shearling gimmer from the Aviemore flock of Doreen Mair, Aberdeenshire; The March-03 born Frida V/D Vosseberg was AId in September to Kauwenberg Knock Out. The reserve champion from the Frazier's Coningswick flock, AId to Pentland Hero, 900gns to Brian Ryder, of Newtown Farm, Annan Water, Moffat, Dumfriesshire.

PENRITH. - Wed of last week. Christmas show and sale fwd: 3,044 lambs, 540 cast ewes and rams.
The championship was awarded to Messrs Tweddell, Haltcliffe Bridge, with a pen of Continental cross lambs which realised at £74 per head and were purchased by the judge, Paul Slater, Whiteley Hey. Reserve went to Mr W H Brass, Low Row with a pen of Continental cross lambs which were also purchased by Mr Slater at £67 per head. Top price of the day was £80 per head for Continentals sold by Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey, and bought by Greyhound Hotel, Shap. The show was sponsored by HSBC.

Thirsk. - Thurs. Buyers and sellers from all over the North attended the Christmas stock show incorporated into the weekly sale. Out of a total of 577 prime cattle presented, 122 were forwarded for the show. Judge, Peter Buck of Ripley task.
Champion beast winning the William Wood Cup was a Blonde/Aqu X, presented by R&C Donaldson, Huby. It weighed 525kgs and sold at 350p/£1,837 for the judge. This beast also won best hfr and the Crown Chemical Cup and best butcher's beast and the John Smith Challenge Cup.
Reserve was a BBX hfr from J Trenholme, Thirkleby. It weighed 530kgs and sold at 165p.£874 to Woodhead Bros, Colne. Winning the Thirsk Young Farmers trophy for best Cont bull was a beast presented by Walker Bros, Huby, and weighing 490kgs. It sold for 128p/£627.20 to JS Hibberd, Sheffield.
