FARMERS and police have joined forces to reduce the increasing number of thefts from farms and stables in the Stockton area.
Stockton Police crime reduction department and farmers are offering to security-mark horse saddles and other equipment at a reduced price of £10.
They have taken the initiative after an increase in the theft of saddles and packs at stables and livery yards across the borough.
Information on security-marked saddles will be entered on the national data base to track ownership and return stolen equipment.
Warren Farm Livery Stables, on Wynyard Road, in Wolvison, will hold saddle microchipping open days on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm, in which people can have equipment microchipped. A similar event will be held at Kirklevington Livery Stable on Tuesday, from 3pm to 6pm.
Detective Constable Dave Sanders said: "Security marking greatly reduces the risk of items being stolen in the first place."
