LORRY driver Peter Walker wants to carry on trucking - so colleagues marked his 65th birthday by presenting him with a non-retirement gift.
Mr Walker, from Staveley, near Ripon, who has driven millions of miles during his career, has reached the age when he could retire.
He has more than 35 years' experience as a heavy goods vehicle driver and has hauled sand and gravel for Nosterfield Quarry, near Bedale, for more than 13 years.
But he has chosen to continue driving two shifts a week between Nosterfield and Ossett.
He said: "I enjoy the job and was delighted when the firm invited me to carry on.
"I still have plenty of time to enjoy my pastimes of walking, bowls and birdwatching."
Before joining Burton Leonard haulage company Alfred Hymas, in 1990, Mr Walker delivered farm animal feeds around the North.
He said: "I got my licence at the age of 17 and have been in the business continuously ever since.
"Even though it means a 4.30am start on working days, I would miss the job too much to retire yet."
Tarmac Nosterfield Quarry manager Alan Coe said: "The presentation was a special mark of respect to Peter for his excellent service on behalf of all the quarry's customers, staff and drivers.
"We all wish him a long and happy non-retirement."
