A YOUNG mother who sold drugs to an undercover policewoman in a nightclub was told by a judge yesterday that she would not go to jail because of her three-year-old daughter.
Danielle Moutter,19, sold six ecstasy tablets, for £3 each, to the WPC.
Judge Peter Armstrong told Moutter that people who sold class A drugs such as ecstasy, heroin and cocaine usually went to prison.
Moutter carried out the deal in the toilets, at The Cube nightclub, Spennymoor, said prosecutor Paul Newcombe.
The WPC was approached by a girl who said her friend could "sort her out".
Moutter appeared and produced the tablets from a white bag saying that they were of good quality, Teesside Crown Court was told.
Lorraine Mustard, defending, said that Moutter had felt pressurised by her friends and had a naive wish to impress them.
She said that Moutter was hoping to set up a family home with her new boyfriend, and that a custodial sentence could expose her to more sophisticated offending.
Judge Armstrong said: "People who supply ecstasy in nightclubs go to prison.
"One thing that saves you from that today is the fact that you have a three-year-old child who relies on your care."
Moutter, of Kestrel Close, Ayton, Washington, who pleaded guilty to supplying class A drugs on 16 March last year, was instead given a three-year community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £300 costs.
