Although Emma Lavelle is best known for her exploits with her National Hunt animals, she's more than capable of getting the right results on the Flat.
The Hampshire trainer won two decent all-weather handicaps with Gig Harbor early this year and was again on the mark on the sand with Freak Occurrence at Southwell last month.
Her lightly-raced Stage Secret, also a recent winner for the stable, can be on the mark at Wolverhampton today in division two of the betdirect.co.uk Handicap over seven furlongs.
The three-year-old showed the right attitude to get the better of Shannon Secret (who has since run creditably in defeat) over this course and distance on his penultimate start and was anything but disgraced on his handicap debut last time.
On that occasion he fared the best of those coming from off the steady pace and, as he also had to race widest of all throughout, he looks a bit better than the bare form.
The return to this trip will suit, he's well drawn and is one of the few open to improvement.
He's taken to beat Roman Maze, who also fared the best of those held up over this course and distance last time but who looks thoroughly exposed.
Mark Brisbourne, who trains the latter, can have better luck in division one of the same contest as his fairly consistent Merdiff is taken to get the better of Cape St Vincent.
A winner over six furlongs at this course early last month, the gelding showed he was still in good fettle when a solid third to the in-form Currency on his latest outing and he should be suited by the return to this trip.
Kevin Ryan's team has been in good form and his Blades Boy can take advantage of the defection of Ryedane to win the Littlewoods Bet Direct Nursery over the minimum trip.
Although he showed the right attitude to win at Southwell last time, his five-furlong fast ground win at Musselburgh earlier this year gives hope that he should have no problems with this quicker surface and his stall seven draw looks fine.
Kieren Fallon is back in the saddle in this country and he looks to have prospects aboard Gay Kellaway's J R Stevenson in the Press Interactive To Bet Direct Claimer over the extended nine furlongs.
The eight-year-old wasn't disgraced on his first start for the stable over a mile at this course last time and the step-up to this trip should be in his favour.
He has a good chance at these weights.
Miss Kellaway can also be on the mark with the in-form Bienhereux, who is fancied to land his fourth win from his last six starts in the Bet Direct In Vision Sky Page 293 Handicap over a mile and a half.
Lingfield's banded meeting won't appeal to the majority but there are still winning opportunities to be found. Piquet looks best of a modest field in the Littlewoods Bet Direct Banded Stakes (division two) over a mile.
Fakenham has to pass a precautionary early morning inspection due to a threat of frost but, if the meeting is handed the green light, the best bet on the card looks to be Barney Curley's Lillebror in the SIS Handicap Hurdle over two and a half miles.
