MARKET traders in Darlington have been preparing for a rush of shoppers in the run-up to Christmas.
Stallholders from Darlington Indoor Market say they expect this week to be their busiest of the year as families stock up for the festive period.
The town's indoor market, built in 1863, has 73 stalls and 18 shops.
Markets manager Peter Wilson said: "We have been busy and we expect to get even busier. It's busy because of the huge range of stuff we sell and the friendliness of the traders.
"People can get everything they need for Christmas, be it fresh produce or gifts, and it is such good value."
Robin Blair, from JJ Blair & Sons Market Gardeners, said: "This week is our week.
"We have done quite well so far, but we are expecting lots of people through the doors from now on as so much of what we sell is fresh."
