SUPERBRAIN, the North-East's toughest trivia quiz, is 20 years old today.

And this year, for the first time in its history, its taxing questions have been set by last year's winners.

Teacher Dave Tucker, of Aycliffe Village, and bread delivery man David Chisholm, of Newton Aycliffe, both County Durham, have spent much of 2004 compiling 360 questions with which to tease the region's brains over the festive period.

The results can be found in the Superbrain supplement, which appears with today's paper.

The two Davids were in the team that won the quiz in three of the past four years.

"It has been a very different challenge," said Dave, pastoral head of the upper school at Branksome, in Darlington.

"I think we've spent more time setting it than we ever did taking part in it. There's so much research goes into writing it, more than actually doing it. It has been brilliant, though. It really has."

David, who has entered Superbrain every year since it started in 1985, said: "It was good to have a year to collect material and then research it to make sure it's right."

This year's quiz is along similar lines to previous years, with six main categories: sport, TV and film, North-East, current affairs, literature and pop.

We have added a seventh round as we search for our first King of the Pictures. Each category contains 15 pictures, and the winner will be the person who names the most of the 90 faces in the whole quiz.

You can enter as many categories as you like. Some people have a shot at one category - others try the whole quiz.
