A Christmas activity day for young people has got the seasonal holiday off to a fun-filled start.

The event, designed by Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP), in Redcar, included a host of activities from boxercise to basketball and circus skills to DJ-ing.

Held as part of Connexions Tees Valley's services, the event at the Roseberry Square Centre, was the third open day.

The scheme aims to provide a fantastic fun day which also brings young people together and raise their aspirations.

Kelly Armstrong, PAYP personal advisor, said: "Involving and communicating openly between agencies in the Redcar area has enabled young people to be kept informed of what's going on in their area and get access to a wide range of services and activities over the Christmas holidays.

"The focus of the activity day was firmly on fun with the chance to learn a few new skills."

The day's event was supported by MAC - Make a Change - and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's Youth and Community Service.

PAYP provides a range of school holiday time activities providing structured occupation and personal development opportunities.

It helps divert young people from taking part in criminal activities, and giving those at risk of being socially excluded a chance to fulfil their potential.
