THE final phase of an improvement programme at a North-East railway station has been completed.
Four new customer information screens have been erected at Newcastle Central Station by train operator GNER.
The screens will provide passengers with up-to-the-minute train-running information, train departures and arrivals.
Other improvements at the station include a new customer information point, additional cycle racks, and increased security with the installation of more security cameras.
The station has also been awarded Secure Stations status by the British Transport Police, the Department for Transport and Crime Concern.
The work at Newcastle Central forms part of GNER's £10m station improvement programme to modernise facilities at key stations along the East Coast Main Line.
Chief executive Christopher Garnett said: "Newcastle Central Station has been transformed in recent years and we have now delivered our planned work under the two-year franchise extension."
The customer information screens are located in the car-park entrance, central platform footbridge, between platforms 3 and 4, above the doorway of the Centurion caf and above the change machine in the Metro lower-level.
