A COURT usher hung up her gown for the last time this week.
After almost 14 years as a court usher for South Durham Magistrates' Courts Ann Johns retired on Wednesday.
Mrs Johns began her court career in March 1991, after serving in the Wrens, and has worked at all of the magistrates' courts in the area, based mainly at Newton Aycliffe and Bishop Auckland.
A presentation to thank Mrs Johns for her hard work was made by clerk to the justices Linda Brenkley, who said she had been a dedicated servant and would be greatly missed by her friends and colleagues.
She said: "Ann leaves the magistrates' courts service after almost 14 years at Newton Aycliffe courthouse.
"Ann will be greatly missed for her friendly and practical approach, and the fact that she is always ready to help others.
"She is leaving to spend more time with her family, and we wish her well."
