Leeds captain Paul Butler is warning his team-mates to be wary of the threat from Michael Bridges.

Centre-back Butler and striker Bridges were team-mates in Sunderland's title winning season in 1999 and will be in opposition on Sunday when Leeds visit the Stadium of Light.

Bridges' Leeds career stalled as injury followed injury. He was at Newcastle on loan last summer before moving back to Sunderland, where he has recently ended a four-year goal drought.

Butler left the Black Cats in 2001 for Wolves before moving to Elland Road last summer.

He will be up against his former teammate on Sunday and admitted: "When I was at Sunderland Michael was unpredictable.

"He didn't know what he was doing half the time when he got the ball, but he scored some great goals. The talent was always there.

"After he came down to Leeds and he went and scored 20 goals, he was being touted for England at the time. Then he picked up a run of injuries you wouldn't believe.

"I remember him as a great lad. He was very popular in the dressing room with the lads and he carried that on when he was here at Leeds.

"Now he is back at Sunderland. I know people say it's like he has never been away.

"I'm glad to see he is over his injuries and he is back playing football.

"He got his first goal the other week, and hopefully he won't score on Sunday."
