TRAIN operator GNER has completed the final phase of its improvements to Durham railway station with the installation of two customer information screens.
The screens will provide rail passengers with up-to-the minute information on running times, departures and arrivals.
Improvements at the East Coat Main Line station include a customer information point and extra cycle racks. The station has also been awarded secure stations and secure car-park status from the British Transport Police.
The work at Durham forms part of GNER's £10m station improvement programme to modernise facilities at key stations along the East Coast Main Line.
Christopher Garnett, GNER's chief executive, said: "We are delighted to announce the completion of our station improvement programme at Durham.
"Stations are important gateways to the regions they serve and it is important that they are as warm and welcoming as possible.
"GNER's £10m station modernisation programme will improve the daily experience of passengers and hopefully encourage more people to travel by train."
The customer information screens at Durham are located in the car-park entrance and the waiting room area.
GNER provides 36 services a day to and from Durham station, which is used by almost 2m rail passengers per year.
