RESIDENTS in the Pallister Park area of Middlesbrough have been warned to be on the lookout for bogus callers.
A man claiming to be from Erimus Housing, which took over the management of Middlesbrough Council's housing stock, tried to con his way into a house last week.
When asked for identification, the caller claimed company staff had yet to be issued with ID cards. The householder became suspicious and refused to let him in.
Area manager of Erimus Housing Brian Trodden said: "I urge all householders, no matter where they live, to be extra vigilant and ask callers for identification.
"All our employees carry ID and our front-line staff wear distinctive uniforms. If householders are not absolutely sure that callers to their home are genuine, they shouldn't let them in and should call the police or contact the warden service.
