GOLFERS definitely had their eye on the ball when it came to raising funds for the ear, nose and throat department at the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
Every year, the captain of Dinsdale Spa Golf Club, in Middleton-St-George, selects a charity of his choice to support, and this year a total of £2,166.20 was donated.
The donation was particularly poignant to the club, as member David Kynman and teenager Scott Ellershaw, whose father is a member, have both been patients at the hospital.
David underwent treatment for a glomus tumour at the Middlesbrough hospital, while 16-year-old Scott had to travel to Manchester Royal Infirmary to have a tumour removed from his acoustic nerve and a brain stem implant.
Mr Ellershaw and his mother, Alison, returned to the hospital with the former captains, including Alan Robinson and members from Dinsdale Spa Golf Club to hand the cheque to consultant Maurice Hawthorne.
Mr Hawthorne said: "This is a fantastic amount of money to us and will go towards equipment for the temporal bone dissection laboratory in the department where we train junior surgeons in ear surgery."
