EVERY child's favourite locomotive is about to take a break from his duties to meet his fans.
Thomas the Tank Engine, who is 60 next year, will be at the National Railway Museum, in York, from February 5 to 20.
For the first time, youngsters are being invited to get up close and stand on Thomas' footplate and meet some of his friends.
Percy, Diesel, and the Troublesome Trucks will give rides in the NRM's South Yard.
Daisy and George the Steamroller will also be there under the watchful eye of Sir Topham Hatt -the Fat Controller.
Other activities to keep the children entertained throughout the 16-day event include storytelling in the NRM's interactive learning centre, with six readings of the books. Youngsters can also take part in art activities.
On February 9 and 10, fans can also have their Thomas books signed by Christopher Awdry, the son of Thomas' creator, the Reverend W Awdry.
