A £60,000 piano is to make its debut at a New Year's Day concert at Scarborough's Spa Grand Hall, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous music lover.
A donation of several thousand pounds has been given towards the purchase of the Boesendorfer piano, which will be used by The Spa Orchestra and concert pianists.
The balance came from the borough council and from the sale of the old piano, said Simon Kenworthy, leader of the 92-year-old orchestra, the last of its kind in a British seaside town.
The concert which starts at 2pm, will see the orchestra stage a Viennese gala.
