A NORTH-EAST bus company has appointed a team to monitor footage from security cameras in its vehicles.
Go North-East, which operates many services in County Durham, Wearside and Tyneside, has fitted cameras to 300 of its buses.
Those inside the vehicles monitor anti-social behaviour by passengers, while those on the front and back of the buses keep an eye out for accidents.
The team of three administrators is responsible for the upkeep of the equipment, downloading footage following incidents and handing over footage that will help police investigations.
Andrew Milburn, Paul Owens and Richard Boyle are based at the company's Go Wear, Go Gateshead and Go Northern divisions, respectively.
Mr Milburn, 37, from Jarrow, South Tyneside, said: "While we do not have a huge problem with bad behaviour on the buses, incidents do occur from time to time. Obviously, it is essential that we can react quickly and successfully help the police with their inquiries."
Commercial director Martin Harris said: "We have the highest number of security cameras fitted vehicles in the North-East, something we are committed to maintaining through further investment.
"The new team will make sure the technology is being used to its full potential and will help us maintain our commitment to passenger safety both on and off our vehicles."
