A TALENTED sporting trio has landed trials for the international basketball squad.
Kyle Smith, Luke Williams and Richard Summerbell are all bidding for a place in the England basketball team after being spotted by scouts at a national tournament.
The three teenagers, who are all students at Woodham Community Technology College, in Newton Aycliffe, were representing the North-East in a national basketball competition when they caught the eye of England selectors.
The intensive competition, at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, in Shropshire, in November, is used by England coaches to assist with the selection of the national side.
The trio's achievement is another coup for the school which has seen seven pupils take part in the competition in the past three years
Head of PE Danny Morgans said: "The students have worked extremely hard over the past eighteen months to achieve a playing standard that allows them to compete at this level and they have been rewarded by their selection.
"In the past three years, seven students from the college have reached this standard."
