A MAN is due to appear in court today following a six-hour armed siege.
Police were called to a domestic incident at a house in Dixon Street, Blackhill, near Consett, County Durham, shortly after 4.30am on New Year's Day.
Officers were confronted by a man brandishing a sword, who then barricaded himself in the house.
The street was cordoned off and more than 20 officers attended the scene.
The man gave himself up without a struggle at about 10.30am after talking to police negotiators and was arrested.
Police last night said the man would be appearing before North Durham magistrates, today, in relation to the incident, but declined to identify him or confirm what charges he will face.
