RESIDENTS of Sedgefield are urged to recycle their Christmas trees.
Sedgefield Borough Council is taking part in a Christmas tree shredding scheme which will use chippings from trees in community gardens.
Tree collection points will be open from today to January 16 at Broom allotments, Ferryhill; Timothy Terrace Allotments, Spennymoor; Fishburn Community Allotment; Trimdon Community Allotment and Chilton West Allotments.
This is the third year the project has been organised by Sedgefield Borough Council and Groundwork East Dur-ham to encourage residents to help the environment and their local community.
Anyone unable to take their trees to these locations can take them to Civic Amenity sites, where they will be turned into compost.
For details about community allotment projects, contact Jason Martin at Groundwork East Durham on 0191-527 3333. For information about the recycling initiative call Ruth Clayton on (01388) 816166.
