AN art exhibition using photography and light will open in Hartlepool on Saturday.
Double Vision features images by German photographer Reinhild Beuther, which are displaying in the form of lightboxes, in which the image is lit from behind.
Ms Beuther originally worked with sculpture, but is now using the two-dimensional medium of photography to explore sculptural ideas.
Her work, which will be displayed at Hartlepool Art Gallery, has been described as a unique approach to photography and uses layers of material to form a final image, particularly human faces and bodies.
A Hartlepool Art Gallery spokesman said: "The images are both haunting and compelling and, as they are presented in lightboxes, there is an added spirituality."
The work is semi-autobiographical and unites images of her husband, son, parents and friends in a variety of combinations. She grew up in East Germany, but became a UK resident in 1997.
The free exhibition will run until Sunday, February 27.
The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 5.30pm, and Sundays, 2pm to 5pm.
