AN entertainment complex is supporting a North-East city's bid to become the world's first CarbonNeutral city in the fight against climate change.
Carbon Neutral Newcastle encourages businesses and families to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions and to make a small donation.
Money from the fund is then used to support environmental projects including planting trees, introducing renewable energy and insulating homes in disadvantaged areas of the city.
The Gate, in Newcastle, which was one of the main sponsors of Newcastle city centre's Christmas lights, has this year offset 11 tonnes of CO2 to make the lights CarbonNeutral.
The Gate manager Adam Johnson said: "I was amazed to discover that in one year, Newcastle's population, business and organisations produce enough climate-damaging carbon dioxide to fill the St James' Park 760 times."
