A Sports scheme has been set up to strengthen links between a university and the community.
The University of Durham will launch the Centre for Life at the Queen's Campus, Stockton.
It aims to get more local people to use the university facilities by developing relationships with sports organisations such as Stockton Sport Development, increasing student coaching and raising awareness of coaching qualifications.
The first phase of the sports facilities is nearing completion and will form part of the university's local and regional plan for sport and health.
The Centre for Life will encourage students, residents, schools and community groups to come to the campus and take part in activities programmes under the guidance of professional staff.
Discussions are under way with Middlesbrough Football Club to hold four two-day health and lifestyle courses at the university.
Pupils from secondary schools will receive healthy lifestyle education. For more details call 0191-334 0139.
