A POLICEWOMAN who has helped disadvantaged children has been recognised in the New Year's Honours.
PC Lynda Hutchinson was awarded the Queen's Police Medal.
PC Hutchinson, 36, from Hamsterley, Bishop Auckland, received the honour for her work as co-ordinator of the Durham Youth Enterprise Scheme, run by Durham police.
The project gives children the chance to develop social and life skills through outdoor activities.
PC Hutchinson, based at Newton Aycliffe, helped to raise £250,000 for the project between 1988 and 1993.
She said: "Young people from humble backgrounds, who went on the scheme, are now barristers and teachers."
