The homes of three cops have been raided in a child porn swoop.
Three Northumbria police officers had their homes searched and computer equipment examined by colleagues on the force.
Allegations were made about their involvement with Internet paedophilia and two homes in Gateshead and one in South Tyneside were raided.
Search warrants were issued against all three just days before Christmas and investigating officers seized thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment and discs from the properties.
Police have confirmed that one officer has been arrested and suspended from his duties.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "As a result of information received, searches were carried out at three police officers' homes in the Gateshead and South Tyneside areas.
"A 41-year-old officer living in Birtley was arrested and bailed in connection with computer material found at his house.
"The officer has also been suspended from duties.
"No-one else has been arrested and no other officers have been suspended. Inquiries are on-going."
Although the locations of the officers' homes have been released, police are refusing to say which area commands they work for or what the officers' ranks are.
It is understood that the arrested officer has been bailed to reappear before investigating officers at a later date.
