A SCHOOLBOY will see his logo design go into mass production after he won a competition to highlight the dangers of smoking.
Karl Pitt, nine, of Tanfield Lea Junior School, won the Smoke Free Derwentside logo competition.
About 600 pupils aged from four to 18 entered the competition for a project called Smoke Free Derwentside.
Karl's winning logo will be used to identify areas such as homes, workplaces, public spaces and schools that have smoke-free status.
Smoke Free Derwentside was launched last year to encourage policies that reduce the amount of tobacco smoke in the environment.
Dr Maggie Ireland, chairwoman, said: "I would like to congratulate Karl on winning the competition and hope that he will enjoy working with the graphic designer to get the design ready for mass production."
The project has received funding from the Derwentside Partnership, through Neighbourhood Renewal Funds and Derwentside Primary Care Trust.
