Merry Oaks WI: THE president Margaret Thornhill opened the December meeting by paying tribute to Kit Tait who sadly died recently.
Kit wrote and produced the shows performed by the entertainment group. Her sense of humour and fun always shone through, bringing joy to members and many audiences throughout the county. She will be remembered with great affection.
The business meeting followed when the president announced that last year's coffee mornings had raised more than £500 for charity and also the Shoe Box Appeal had also been generously supported.
The competition - a Christmas tree decoration - was won by Margaret Thornhill and Edith Hall.
Members each received a gift from the bran tub and enjoyed mince pies and shortbread during the tea break.
Entertainment followed provided by Together in Harmony, and concluded with everyone joining in the singing of carols.
This month will be members night.
Coxhoe Ladies Club
THE annual Christmas party was held in December. Jean opened the meeting, welcoming members and three guests Beryl, Eveline and Cathy. The minutes were read from the November meeting and Jean gave personal thanks and presents to many members for untiring work during the year. Gillian gave the financial report for the year and as usual the club is in a healthy prosperous position.
Carole gave a report on the flower fund. She has been very busy this year as so many members have been in hospital. Belle thanked everyone for flowers, cards and visits after her illness. Jean was presented with a beautiful bowl of hyacinths for all her dedication and commitment.
Everyone received a gift from the bran tub.
The evening ended with Nancy and Belle providing their usual entertainment. Fred and Ginger have nothing on them.
This month, the club is holding a birthday dinner at Bowburn Hall.
