Junior round-up

Sunderland Apaches hosted Billingham Coyotes in an under 10 challenge at Newcastle Arena. Dale Sharp put Apaches ahead on 09.41 and Luke Brown equalised for Coyotes two minutes later.

Luke Shanks and a brace from Sharp put Sunderland 4-1 ahead before Brown's second at 17.14. Sharp made it 5-2 by the interval.

Honours were shared in the final period with four goals apiece. Brown doubled his tally to four in the match with Craig Thurston and Thomas Keeley on the mark for Coyotes. Alex Lawson (2), Shanks and Sharp struck for Apaches as they won 9-6.

The clubs met at Under 12 level in a North One League match. Sunderland Cherokees went ahead in only 49 seconds on the powerplay through Luke Shanks. Alex Lawson added a second in the fifth minute of the middle period and Adam Perrie increased the lead to 3-0 with a powerplay strike at 27.05.

Lawson completed is hat-trick with two goals in the opening minutes of the final session. The final three minutes brought another trio of goals from Dale Sharp and a further brace from Lawson. Mark Watson and Paris Lloyd faced 19 shots for Cherokees shut-out as their side won 8-0.

All three North-East sides were in U19 North Division One action on Sunday. There was a derby at Newcastle Arena when Sunderland Tomahawks hosted Whitley Braves. Whitley took the lead on the powerplay at 13.29 through Nathan Taylor as they just ended the first period. The lead was increased only 19 seconds into the middle session with a David Barrett strike. Tomahaws leveled seven minutes through Daniel Lathan at 25.43 and 37 seconds later Dean Holland equalised for Sunderland

There was a little under six minutes remaining when Ben Campbell restored Whitley's advantage. Braves picked up a few penalties late in the match and Callum Hewitt scored for Tomahawks to earn a draw.

Braves: Nathan Taylor 1+1, David Barrett, Ben Campbell 1+0, Daniel Murdy 0+2.

Billingham Wolves suffered a 5-3 loss to Telford Trojans. Trojans went 2-0 ahead after 21 minutes before Wolves replied through Robert Dowd. The three-goal lead for Trojans was restored when short-handed in the first minute of the final session. Liam Telfer tucked in Wolves' second at 55.20 to cut the deficit with 01.31 remaining. Billingham called a time out and pulled netminder James Flavell in favour of an extra out-player. Unfortunately, it backfired as Telford scored two empty net goals at 58.55 and 59.32. Dowd's second of the game for Wolves came at 59.12.

A Becky Kasner brace gave Whitley Bay Squaws a 2-0 win at Blackburn Thunder in the women's division one North.
