THE Richmond Motor Club held their Albert Shaw Trophy Trial over two laps of a 15-section course starting from Wood Yard in Reeth on Boxing Day.
The annual event attracted a massive entry of 154 competitors who had to contend with falling snow as well as the mud and rocks which abound in the area.
Even the first section, a ride up a small stream finishing with a climb out over tree roots, was cleaned on both laps by only four riders - Mark Willis, Gary Pears, Kirk Vitty and Guy Kendrew.
On the clubman's route, Kathryn Wardle and Roger Williams stayed clean here on both laps.
The third section saw only eventual winner Dan Thorpe on his Gas Gas stay clean over the loose rocks, while novice rider Matthew Cannell rode it well to part with just a single dab, as did Peter Reed.
The steep, muddy climb over rocks at the seventh section saw only Thorpe and John Sunter go clean on both laps. Thomas Hick had a good ride here, losing just one mark.
High up on Fremington Edge, which had the added hazard of snow, the very steep climb over icy rocks at the 13th section took five off Sunter and Thorpe on the first lap, while Philip Alderson and Derek White managed to get through with a quick dab.
The best clubman rider here was Mark Lundberg on his Beta, who parted with just three marks.
