A PUBLIC rubbish tip will close on Monday so a nearby landfill site can be landscaped.
Durham County Council will close the Butsfield Civic Amenity Site near the A68 at West Butsfield.
The council has to comply with planning law, which states that a public tip must be closed, so the site can be given an environmental makeover.
A spokesman said: "When the landfill site is full it is closed it and has to be restored but we can't do that with the public tip still there.
"The idea is to restore the area to give it a pleasing and natural appearance."
There are public tips at Potterhouse, Pity Me, Todhills, near Newfields, Willington, Brooms Dene, Stoney Heap, near Leadgate.
