TWO robbers who targeted customers as they left a post office were spared jail yesterday.
Colin Clark, 19, demanded cash and cigarettes from Michael Hardy and Mark Redman outside the Whitburn Road post office, in Sunderland, on May 27 last year.
His accomplice, Anthony Sharp, 19, warned one of the victims he would "get a beating" if he did not comply.
Clark, of Revelstoke Road, Redhouse, and Sharp, of Reading Road, Redhouse, Sunderland, who were picked out at an identity parade by the victims, admitted robbery during earlier hearings at Newcastle Crown Court.
Defence barrister Stewart Graham said: "It was a drunken, stupid attack."
Judge David Hodson sentenced Clark to a community punishment order for 100 hours, a community rehabilitation order for two years and a curfew from 7pm to 6am for six months under the intensive control and change programme.
Sharp was sentenced to a community punishment order for 180 hours. They were both ordered to pay £450 costs.
