A MAN was told he could not cash a cheque and donate the money to the tsunami appeal despite having ten forms of identification.
Alan Reay tried to cash a £102 cheque at the HSBC branch in Gateshead.
He was going to give the money to his children for Christmas but decided to donate the money to the appeal instead.
Mr Reay, 38, said that, because he was unemployed, he did not have a passport or driving licence usually needed as proof as identity.
A spokeswoman for HSBC said staff had no choice but to follow the rules.
She said: "For security reasons staff are required to follow certain identification procedures when cashing cheques."
